Pound Cake: Honey Almond Pound Cake

1 pound butter , softened
1 pound sugar
12 eggs, separated and beaten
1 pound flour, sifted twice
1/2 pound pitted dates
12 almonds, skinned
6 tablespoons honey
Recipe
Cream the butter and sugar together. Add well-beaten egg yolks and stiffly beaten egg whites alternately with flour to the creamed sugar-butter mixture. Beat, When very light, pour into a well-greased and floured round pan. The pan should be large enough to hold the entire mixture plus an inch or more at the top of the pan. Bake in a moderate oven (350ºF) until golden brown. Baking should be slow and watched carefully. Allow to cool while in the pan. When cooled, remove from pan and decorate with dates and almonds. Pour honey over the top for glaze.
