Oatmeal: Oatmeal Cake with Coconut Frosting

1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs -- well beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
5 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup evaporated skim milk
2/3 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup coconut
3/4 cup walnuts -- chopped
Recipe
Pour boiling water over oats; let cool. Cream shortening with white and 1 c. brown sugar. Add eggs and oatmeal mixture. Sift together flour, salt and spices. Add to creamed mixture. Bake at 350ºF for 45 minutes. For topping, combine the 5 Tbl. butter, canned milk and the other 2/3 c. brown sugar. Bring to near boil. Add the coconut and nuts and spread on hot cake.
