    Toffee: Walnut Crunch

    Amish Country Cookbook Vol II

    List of Ingredients

    1 1/4 cups sugar
    3/4 cup butter
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1/4 cup water
    1 1/2 cups coarse chopped walnuts
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/3 cup chocolate chips, melted
    1/2 cup fine chopped walnuts

    Recipe

    Butter a 15x10 inch jelly roll pan. In a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat, bring to boil the sugar, butter, salt and water, stirring often. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until mixture reaches 290ºF on candy thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in coarse chopped walnuts and baking soda quickly. Pour at once into prepared pan. Spread mixture with chocolate and sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts. Cool and then break into small pieces. Makes 1 1/2 pounds.
