Sugar: Chocolate Nut Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter or margerine, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
6 ounces semisweet baking chocolate, melted and cooled
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup finely choppe pecans, toasted Recipe
Preheat oven to 375ºF. In a large bowl, cream butter and 1 cup sugar until fluffy. Add melted chocolate, egg and vanilla; beat until smooth. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking pwder, baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture; stir until a soft dough forms. Stir in pecans. Roll dough into 1-inch balls; roll in remaining 1/2 cup sugar.
Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Flatten balls slightly with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 6 dozen.
