Vermont Maple Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon maple extract
2 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecansRecipe
Mix shortening, sugars and eggs. Stir in sour cream and maple. Stir dry ingredients together. Blend into cream mixture and mix well. Stir in nuts and mix well. Chill dough if soft. Heat oven to 375ºF. Drop by rounded teaspoons about 2" apart on greased baking sheets. Bake for 10 minutes. Spread cooled cookies with maple glaze. For glaze, heat 1/2 c. butter until golden brown. Blend in 2 cups sifted powdered sugar. Add 2 tsp maple extract, then stir in 2-4 tbl. hot water until icing is smooth.
