1 envelope dry yeast
3 tablespoons sugar
3 1/2 cups luke warm milk
2 well beaten eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
2 cups diced raisins
3 diced apples

Soak yeast, sugar and milk together for 10 minutes. Slowly mix in eggs, vanilla and salt. Add flour and mix to combine thoroughly. Add fruit. Cover and let rise at least 1 1/2 hours. (Overnight is not a problem.) Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls into hot oil. Turn when browned on one side. Remove with slotted spoon and sprinkle with icing sugar. Makes 5 dozen.
