    Rice: .Rice Cooking Techniques

    For Brown rice:
    2 cups water
    1 cup rice
    * Boil the water in a saucepan. When boiling, put the rice in and turn to low.
    * Leave very gently simmering for about 20-25 mins and then turn off and leave
    for another 10-15 mins.

    * For White rice:
    1.5 cups water
    1 cup rice
    * Boil water in pan. When boiling, put in the rice and turn to low. Simmer very slowly for 5 minutes and just leave for another 10-15. If you have gas, you may want to simmer for a FEW minutes longer. This is because when
    you turn gas off, the effect is more instant - electric cooktops stay warmer
    for longer, so you don't have to have them on for as long.
    * Many Asians rinse the rice first - I think that it's up to you, but that's what I do.
    * Also, DON'T remove the lid of the pan before the time is up. This process works on trying to keep the steam in the pan.
