    County Fried Steak with Gravy

    This is a yummy dish with mashed potatoes as a side dish.


    List of Ingredients


    • 5 Tb flour, divided
    • 1/4 C cornmeal
    • 1/2 tea salt
    • 1/4 tea pepper
    • 4 Cube Steaks (1 lb)
    • 1 egg white
    • 1 tea water
    • 2 TB vegetable oil, divided
    • Gravy:
    • 1 TB butter
    • 2 TB flour
    • 1 1/2 C milk
    • 1 tea beef bouillon granules
    • 1/2 tea dried marjoram
    • 1/4 tea dried thyme
    • 1/8 tea pepper


    Instructions


    1. In a bowl, combine 3 TB flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper; set aside.
    2. Place remaining flour in a large Zip-Loc bag, add the steaks and shake till covered.
    3. Beat egg white and water; dip steaks in egg mixture, then the cornmeal mixture.
    4. In a cast iron skillet, heat 1 TB oil over med-high heat.
    5. Cook steaks for 5-7 minutes on each side till crisp.
    6. Remove and keep warm.
    7. Gravy:Melt butter, stir in flour till smooth.
    8. Gradually add the milk; bring to a boil over med. heat. Boil 2 minutes stirring constantly, reduce the heat.
    9. Add the bouillon, marjoram, thyme, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 4-5 minutes.
