    Cocoa Butter Lotion

    Source of Recipe

From "Pure Skin Care" by Stephanie Tourles

    Recipe Introduction

"This non-greasy, deeply moisturizing and hydrating rich lotion doubles as a fabulous after-sun skin conditioner. Especially beneficial for those suffering from sunburn or windburn, it leaves skin very soft and silky with a light, velvety orange Creamsicle scent. In summer, I use this as one of my head-to-toe moisturizers."

    List of Ingredients

â—¦ ½ cup unrefined coconut oil
â—¦ ¼ cup almond, apricot kernel, jojoba, macadamia nut, or sunflower oil
â—¦ 2 tablespoons shea butter (refined or unrefined)
â—¦ 1 tablespoon beeswax or vegetable emulsifying wax
    â—¦ 1 tablespoon cocoa butter
â—¦ 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon distilled or purified water
    â—¦ 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
    â—¦ 10 capsules 200 IU vitamin E oil
â—¦ 30 drops sweet orange essential oil
â—¦ 30 drops tangerine essential oil
â—¦ 20 drops vanilla essential oil

    Recipe

Heat the coconut oil, almond oil, shea butter, beeswax, and cocoa butter until just melted. In another pan, warm the water and glycerin, stirring gently. Remove both pans from the heat. Pour the oil/butter/wax mixture into a blender and allow it to cool for approximately 20 minutes, or until it begins to turn slightly opaque.

Place the lid on the blender and remove the lid's plastic piece. With the blender turned on medium speed, slowly drizzle the water and glycerin mixture into the vortex of swirling fats below. Almost immediately, the cream will turn off-white to very pale yellow and will begin to thicken. Blend for 10 to 15 seconds, or until all the watery mixture has been added, then check the consistency of the cream. It should have a smooth, glossy texture.

Turn off the blender and then add the vitamin E oil (pierce the capsule skin and squeeze out the contents). Blend for another 5 seconds or so, until the cream is smooth and thick.

    Makes 2 cups
