Basic Biscuits

List of Ingredients
- 1 package yeast
- ½ cup lukewarm water
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- ¾ cup shortening
- 2 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400° F. Dissolve yeast in water and set aside.
- Mix together flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder and sugar. Cut shortening into the dry ingredients. Mix in yeast and buttermilk.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to desired thickness. Cut out with a biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased or sprayed baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes.
Makes about 3 dozen biscuits.
