- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 8 Tbsp margarine, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs

- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- .
- -- Glaze --
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp orange juice
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- To prepare the bread: Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, salt and nutmeg. With an electric mixer, cream together the margarine and granulated sugar until light. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the lemon and orange peels. Slowly add the flour mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Beat to blend. Beat in the poppy seeds. Transfer the batter to a greased and floured 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven about 1 hour, or until a tester inserted in the bread comes out clean. The bread may need an additional 5 to 10 minutes. Let the bread cool in the pan 10 minutes before turning out onto a rack.
- To prepare the glaze: Whisk together the lemon and orange juices and the powdered sugar. Brush over the warm bread. Cool completely before slicing. Or wrap and freeze after the bread has cooled.
Makes 1 (12-slice) loaf.
