Recipe Introduction
"Make this cheeky cocktail—from Julia Bainbridge's cookbook of booze-free drinks, Good Drinks—from start to finish if you want to feel like you're tending bar at Eem, a Thai barbecue spot in Portland, Oregon. Or just borrow co-owner Eric Nelson's brilliant idea to season Coke with dashes of soy sauce anytime, especially with a cheeseburger."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 4 cups ice cubes
â—¦ 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
â—¦ 3 tablespoons maple syrup
â—¦ 2 teaspoons soy sauce
â—¦ ¾ cup cold Coca-Cola
â—¦ Cinnamon stick, to grate for garnish
Recipe
Wrap the ice cubes in a clean kitchen towel, set on a cutting board, and bash with a skillet or rolling pin to make crushed ice. Shake the crushed ice into two tall glasses and keep cold in the freezer (or move quickly on the rest).
In a cocktail shaker or Mason jar with a lid, combine the lemon juice, maple syrup, and soy sauce. Fill with more ice cubes, seal the shaker, and shake just to chill and combine, about 3 seconds. Add the Coca-Cola to the shaker, give it a quick stir with a long spoon, and pour through a strainer into the glasses filled with crushed ice. Grate cinnamon over the top with a Microplane and serve.
