- 2 cups pitted, halved sweet cherries
- 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups flour, divided
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 1 Tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the cherries and place in a colander to drain. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy; add the eggs and vanilla and blend.
- Sift 1-1/2 cups flour, the baking powder and salt together; add to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, mixing well after each addition. Combine the cherries and nuts with the remaining 1/2 cup flour; fold into the batter.
- Pour into a greased 9-inch square pan. Bake in a preheated 350º F oven for 50 to 55 minutes. Cool before sprinkling with powdered sugar and cutting into squares.
Makes 8 servings.
