Frosting: Salted Caramel Frosting

â—¦ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
â—¦ ¼ cup packed dark brown sugar
â—¦ 3 tablespoons whole milk or heavy cream
â—¦ 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
â—¦ ¼ teaspoon sea salt
â—¦ 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Recipe
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat.
Add the brown sugar and milk and cook for one minute, or until the sugar melts. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool a little.
Transfer the butter mixture to a bowl. Using a hand mixer on high speed, beat in the vanilla and salt. Reduce the speed to low, gradually add the powdered sugar, and beat until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
For a creamier frosting, add a little more milk or cream.
Makes enough for a 9-inch cake
