    Brown Sugar-Spiced Applesauce

    Source of Recipe

    Linda Peppers

    List of Ingredients

    • 3½ pounds tart, crisp apples
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
    • 1¼ tsp cinnamon
    • ½ tsp grated nutmeg
    • 2 cups water, or apple juice

    Instructions

    1. Peel, core, and dice apples. If desired, place apples in a food processor with some water and purée them.

    2. Place mixture in a large pot; simmer with enough water to cook the apples. Add the sugars, lemon juice and spices. Cook until the apples are tender. Blend, if desired -- or leave as chunky as you like it. (Be sure it's not too thick, or the finished product will either be bubbly or ooze out of the jars.)

    3. Ladle hot applesauce into hot jars. Process in a boiling-water bath for 20 minutes for half-pints, pints, or quarts.

      Makes 4 half-pints.
