Recipe Introduction
"Admit it: Who among us hasn't been tempted by those supermarket cookie dough tubes, or even by sneaking a spoonful from a homemade batch? But health concerns over raw eggs make that inadvisable. Whether you're nurturing a bout of childhood nostalgia or you simply don't want to turn on your oven, look to this recipe, which is easily (and safely) made using pantry ingredients. The key to making edible dough is more than just nixing the egg and leaveners, though. Flour is also unsafe to eat raw, so microwave it to zap any potential bacteria. Brown sugar delivers the caramelized flavor that you'd normally get from baking. Mini chocolate chips distribute themselves evenly throughout the dough, but feel free to use any chips you have on hand, or chop up a bar. Or substitute Reese's Pieces, peanut butter chips, or crushed Oreos. Best of all, you can easily double this recipe, freeze the extra dough balls, and save them for a rainy day."
