Recipe Introduction
"I adore this sauce paired with perfumey Gala apples. Sauté the apples in a little butter and get them situated on top of pound cake with a pour of this sauce. Simply Cake soaks this sauce up comfortably."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 2 ½ cups sugar
â—¦ 1 large egg
â—¦ ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
â—¦ ¾ cup half-and-half
â—¦ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
â—¦ ½ cup Southern Comfort
Recipe
In a small skillet over medium heat, cook ½ cup of the sugar until caramelized and dark brown. Do not stir; instead, swirl the pan once the sugar starts to color to produce even browning.
Meanwhile, in a deep saucepan, combine the remaining 2 cups sugar, the egg, butter, half-and-half, and vanilla. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
Add the caramelized sugar to the boiling mixture. Stir rapidly and cook until the caramel dissolves. Remove from the heat, add the Southern Comfort, and stir. Be careful, as the mixture will sputter and spit when the caramel and Southern Comfort are added. Serve warm.
