Recipe Introduction
"Nothing feels more like home than fresh apples bubbling on the stove top. Butter and brown sugar make each apple slice glisten, and the cranberries provide the perfect tartness and beautiful color. Serve this as a dessert during autumn and the winter months or as the ideal side dish with Mustard-Glazed Rosemary Pork Tenderloins."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 6 large cooking apples, such as Granny Smiths, peeled, cored, and sliced ¼ inch thick
â—¦ 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
â—¦ 1 tablespoon cornstarch
â—¦ 4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter
â—¦ â…“ cup packed dark brown sugar
â—¦ ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
â—¦ Pinch of ground nutmeg
â—¦ ¼ cup dried cranberries
â—¦ Whipped cream
Recipe
Toss the apple slices with the lemon juice in a medium bowl and set aside. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and ½ cup water until there are no lumps. Set aside.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and apple slices and sauté, stirring constantly, until the apples are tender and just beginning to turn golden, 6 to 8 minutes.
Stir in the cornstarch mixture. Stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg, add the cranberries, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened, 3 to 5 minutes. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream.
