Skillet Apples with Vanilla Custard

List of Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 pint (2 cups) half-and-half
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 medium tart cooking apples, cored, cut in half crosswise
Instructions
- In a 10-inch skillet, melt butter until sizzling. Stir in brown sugar and cornstarch. Stir in all remaining ingredients, except apples. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (6 to 8 minutes).
- Place apples, cut-side down, in cream mixture. Cover; continue cooking, spooning sauce over apples occasionally until apples are fork-tender (12 to 15 minutes).
- Place apples on individual dessert dishes. With wire whisk, stir sauce until smooth.
Serve sauce over apple halves.
