Strawberry Compote with Wine Syrup

List of Ingredients
- 2 cups dry red wine
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 Tbsp currant jelly
- 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
- 2 whole cloves
- 2 navel oranges, peel and white pith removed, cut into wedges
- 1 tsp grated lemon peel
- 1 quart strawberries, hulled and sliced
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine the wine, sugar, jelly, cinnamon stick and cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook 10 minutes, until reduced by half. Let cool.
- Place the oranges in a serving bowl. Strain the syrup over them. Stir in the lemon peel. Cover and chill.
- Thirty minutes before serving, stir in the strawberries and let sit at room temperature.
Makes 6 servings.
