    Strawberry Compote with Wine Syrup

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups dry red wine
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 Tbsp currant jelly
    • 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
    • 2 whole cloves
    • 2 navel oranges, peel and white pith removed, cut into wedges
    • 1 tsp grated lemon peel
    • 1 quart strawberries, hulled and sliced


    Instructions


    1. In a large saucepan, combine the wine, sugar, jelly, cinnamon stick and cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook 10 minutes, until reduced by half. Let cool.

    2. Place the oranges in a serving bowl. Strain the syrup over them. Stir in the lemon peel. Cover and chill.

    3. Thirty minutes before serving, stir in the strawberries and let sit at room temperature.

      Makes 6 servings.
