Christmas: Whiskey Sauce

List of Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup hot cream
- 4 large egg yolks, beaten
- Pinch of salt
- 2 Tbsp whiskey
Instructions
- Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Heat the cream in a medium saucepan until hot but not boiling. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter-sugar mixture, the beaten egg yolks, and the salt. Beat until well blended.
- Return the saucepan ot the stove and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick. Stir in the whiskey. Pour into a sauceboat and serve hot with mince pie. This sauce is also great on gingerbread, chocolate cake, baked apples, and apple pies.
Makes 4 cups.
