    Thanksgiving: Port-Cranberry Sauce

    From "Bonnie Stern's Essentials of Home Cooking"


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 cup light brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice and rind from 1 orange
    • 1/2 cup port
    • 12 ounces (1 bag) fresh or frozen cranberries (about 3-1/2 cups)


    Instructions


    1. Bring the sugar, orange juice and rind, and port to a boil. Add the berries. Turn down to a simmer and cook until the berries begin to pop and the sauce thickens slightly, about 8 minutes.
      (The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.)
