Mama Lou's Thanksgiving Macaroni & Cheese

- 1/2 lb. elbow macaroni
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup cream
- Salt
- Freshly ground white pepper
- Pinch of cayenne
- 2 cups grated sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 2 Tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F).
- Cook the macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water until tender, about 6 minutes. Drain; toss with 2 tablespoons butter in a medium bowl, and place in a baking dish.
- Heat the milk and cream in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Season with salt, white pepper and cayenne. Stir in the cheese. When cheese melts, pour sauce over macaroni and mix well. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and dot with 2 tablespoons butter. Bake until golden brown and bubbly, 30 to 35 minutes.
