From "The Ultimate Cat Treat Cookbook" by Liz Palika
List of Ingredients
- 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded finely
- ½ cup canned or cooked salmon, shredded
- 1 large egg, hard-cooked
- ¼ cup finely chopped greens
- 1 Tbsp chicken fat or oil from canned salmon
Instructions
- Put the shredded chicken and salmon into a bowl and crumble the hard-cooked egg over the meat. Add the greens and fat or oil, and mix gently.
To one meal per day, add a vitamin-and-mineral supplement and a 100 mg taurine supplement.
Makes 2 to 3 meals for a 10- to 15-pound indoor cat.
Final Comments
Any homemade diet should be varied on a regular basis so that different ingredients add to the cat's diet. Variations to this recipe can include:
• Substitute turkey for the chicken.
• Substitute mackerel, clams, or other fish for the salmon.
• Substitute grated carrots for the chopped greens.
• Substitute tuna oil or water for the chicken fat.
• Add a dash of catnip to the finished meal.
You can double this recipe to make several meals ahead of time, but do not make more than 3 days' worth in advance. Keep the food in the refrigerator until you serve it.
