Cats: Tuna Training Treats
Source of Recipe
From "The Ultimate Cat Treat Cookbook" by Liz Palika
Recipe Introduction
"Ginger, an orange-and-white 6-year-old long-haired mixed breed, chose these treats over any others that were offered. In addition, with these treats as rewards in one 5-minute training session, she learned to wave her right paw when she heard 'Wave!'"
List of Ingredients
• 1 (6-ounce) can albacore tuna in oil or water, undrained
• ½ cup whole-wheat flour
• ½ cup good-quality dry cat food
• ½ cup nonfat dry milk
• 1 large egg
• ¼ cup water
• ¼ cup catnip, for sprinkling on treats
Recipe
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Place the tuna in a mixing bowl. Use a fork to shred the tuna into fine pieces. Add to the tuna all the remaining ingredients except the catnip, mixing well. The dough will be sticky.
Using a ¼-teaspoon measuring spoon, scoop bite-sized treats and place on a greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle all the treats with dried catnip.
Bake for 10 minutes or until the treats are golden brown. Flip the treats and bake for another 5 minutes or until the treats are golden brown on both sides. When the cookies have been baked, turn off the oven. Put all the cookies back on a cookie sheet and return them to the oven. Leave them in the cooling oven for several hours or overnight to harden.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
