    Buttermilk Pie II

    From "The Southern Bite Cookbook"

    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 3 heaping tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • Pinch of salt
    • Dash of ground nutmeg
    • 1 (9-inch) frozen deep-dish pie crust, thawed


    Instructions


    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

    2. In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar together with a hand mixer or in a stand mixer. Add the eggs, and mix well. Mix in the buttermilk, flour, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg.

    3. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust, and bake 55 minutes to one hour, or until set. Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing.

      Serves 6 to 8



    Final Comments


    "Don't worry, Buttermilk Pie doesn't taste anything like buttermilk. It's more of a custard pie. And though it has origins in the UK, we lay claim to it here down South."
