Cream Nut Filling and Frosting

2 1/2 T. flour
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. shortening (half butter)
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 t. salt
1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts
1 c. sifted confectioners sugarRecipe
Gradually blend milk into flour and cook until a very thick paste is formed stirring constantly, about 10 minutes. Cool t lukewarm. Meanwhile, cream shortening with sugar and salt. Add the lukewarm paste. Beat with rotary beater until fluffy. Fold in vanilla and nuts. Use about 1/3 for filling. To the remainder, blend in up to 1 c. confectioners' sugar to make a more generous amount for top and sides of cake. Icing for 2-layer cake.
