    "Original Toll House Cookies"

    Source of Recipe

    Nestle Co.

    Recipe Introduction

The Original recipe called for 1 cup shortening, which is the way I still make these favorites today. The modified Toll House Cookie recipe of today calls for 1 cup butter instead of shortening. This makes for a crunchier cookie instead of a soft cookie. I myself like the soft type of chocolate chip cookie much better, but you be the judge...

    List of Ingredients

    2 1/4 C. Flour
    1 t. Baking Soda
    1 t. Salt
    1 C. Shortening (I use Crisco)
    3/4 C. Sugar
3/4 C. firmly packed Brown Sugar
    1 t. Vanilla extract
    2 Eggs
1 12 oz. Pkg (2 cups) Semi Sweet Chocolate Pieces
    1 C. chopped Nuts (Optional)

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 375. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda & salt; set aside. In large bowl, combine shortening, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract; beat until creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually add flour mixture; mix well. Stir in chocolate pieces & nuts; mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 - 10 minutes. (OR) If you really want to be fast, what I do is: Pour all the cookie dough into a 9x13 greased baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 16 minutes... Let cool and then cut into bars. This is much quicker & easier...
