3 cups all purpose flour (instant blending is good)
3 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
4 tsp. white sugar
3 tsp.(heaping)margerine
1 cup raisins or cheese (optional)
buttermilk and/or cream to make a soft doughRecipe
Mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and sugar until blended. Add shortening and mix with pastry blender until it resembles fine crumbs. Add raisins/cheese. Add liquid to make a soft dough-do not overmix. Knead gently on a floured surace. Pat with hand or rolling pin to 3/4 inch thick. Cut out with a 2 inch cutter and place on cookie sheet. Bake 350 degree until lightly browned.
