3 3/4 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
1 cup water
1 teaspoon flavoring oil or 1 Tablespoon flavoring extract
5 to 6 drops food coloring
Recipe
Mix sugar, corn syrup, and water in a large saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Boil, without stirring, until temperature reaches 310 degrees or until drops of syrup form hard brittle threads in cold water. Remove from heat. After boiling has ceased, stir in flavoring and food coloring. Pour onto lightly greased cookie sheet or onto heavy duty aluminum foil sprinkled with confectioners sugar. When cool and hard, break into pieces. Store in airtight containers. Makes 2 1/4 pounds.
Notes: I usually make 1/2 recipes in several flavors, each a different color. I mix them all together then pack them into baby food jars or small jelly jars to give as Christmas gifts.
