    Irish Soda Bread

    3 cups whole-wheat flour
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1 stick margarine or butter
    1/2 cup applesauce
    Raisins
    Buttermilk (to moisten)

Mix together all dry ingredients. Work in butter until crumbly. Add applesauce, raisins (any amount) and enough buttermilk to moisten dough. On a floured surface, knead the dough, adding more flour until dough is no longer sticky. Split dough in half. Place in round greased pan. Cut in quarters before baking.
    Bake at 350° F. for 1 hour.
