    AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD STARTER

    YOU WILL NEED GLASS BOWL AND WOODEN SPOONS DO NOT USE ANY METAL UTENSILS

    List of Ingredients

    1 pkg. yeast
    2 ½ cups warm water
    2 cups flour
    1 cup sugar

    Recipe

    Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water. Add remaining warm water, flour and sugar, beat until smooth. Place in a glass bowl on countertop, do not refrigerate. Cover with clean dishtowel. The starter will ferment for 10 days before it is ready to give away or use.

    10 days instructions:
    Day 1 Begin or receive starter
    Day 2 Stir
    Day 3 Stir
    Day 4 Stir
    Day 5 Add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk
    Day 6 Stir
    Day 7 Stir
    Day 8 Do nothing
    Day 9 Do nothing
    Day 10 Add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk

    Put 1 cup of starter in each of 3 containers. Give 2 to friends and keep one for yourself. This will be their day 1. Burp container twice daily.

    To the remaining batter add:
    1 cup oil, 1 cup sugar, 2 cup flour, 1 ½ tsps. baking powder, 3 eggs, 1 large box vanilla pudding mix, 2 tsps. cinnamon, and ½ tsp. salt. Beat with fork. Grease 2 loaf pans with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 1 hour or until knife inserted comes out clean.

    VARIATIONS:

    Omit: cinnamon & vanilla pudding from basic recipe & add 1 (5.1 oz) box of instant chocolate pudding, 3 tsp. cocoa & 3/4 cup chocolate chips. Bake for 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours.

    Omit: cinnamon and vanilla pudding and add banana cream pudding mix and 1 mashed banana.

    Omit: cinnamon, vanilla pudding and vanilla and add lemon pudding mix and 2 tsps. lemon extract.

    Omit: cinnamon and vanilla pudding and add 1 box strawberry jello mix and 1 cup frozen thawed strawberries.

    Add: 1/2 cup craisins and 1/2 cup dried apples.
