    Angels' Clouds (Baked Merengues)

    3 egg whites
    3/4 cup sugar
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp cream of tartar

    Put egg whites in electric mixer and beat until foamy. Add salt and cream of tartar and beat until stiff. Add sugar and vanilla and beat very stiff. Drop by teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheet.

    Bake at 300 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown.

    You can also add a tiny bit of food coloring to the mix before baking, for colored cookies.
