    Turtle Cake

This cake uses a mix, but uses a lot of creative extras.

1 box German chocolate cake mix
1 bag (14 oz) caramels, unwrapped
    3/4 cups butter
    1/2 cup evaporated milk
    1 cup milk chocolate chips*
    1 cup pecans

Combine caramels with butter and evaporated milk in a saucepan. Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Mix cake mix as directed on box and pour half of prepared batter into cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 - 20 minutes.

Melt caramel mixture over low heat and pour over baked cake. Sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips over caramel topping and then pour the remaining cake batter on top. Bake again at 350 for about 20 minutes or until done.

Great served with whipped topping or ice cream.

A good variation is to omit half of the caramels and add 1/4 cup peanut butter to the saucepan mixture; substitute peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips.
