    French Toast

    List of Ingredients

    • 6 large eggs
    • 1/4 C. milk
    • 1/4 to 1/2 C. superfine sugar
    • 1 tsp. pure vanilla
    • 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring
    • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
    • Texas Toast
    • vegetable/olive oil
    • butter, unsalted


    1. Combine all ingredients except bread, oil and butter in a bowl with a flat bottom, large enough to lay a piece of bread in. Mix together will with a fork. If mixture is too runny add more eggs, if too thick more milk, but mixture should be on the thick side. Heat pan and a bit of oil with a bit of butter. Quickly dip bread into egg mixture, don't soak, and let extra drip off. Fry until golden brown , turning once. Test first one for sweetness, if needed add more sugar.

    2. This french toast can be made in large batches and frozen for later use.

    Final Comments

    I like to eat mine without syrup so I make the egg mixture very sweet. My family used syrup but they like it very sweet to start with too.

    Any kind of bread can be used but Texas Toast or any thick cut bread is best. I always make a test piece to check for sweetness and flavorings and add sugar and/or vanilla if needed.
