    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 cups sifted flour
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 2 Tbs. sour milk * or buttermilk
    • 1 tsp. baking soda
    • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
    • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
    • Topping:
    • 2 Tbs. sugar
    • 2 Tbs. flour
    • 2 Tbs. melted butter


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    2. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Blend in flour and salt. Dissolve baking soda in sour milk; add to batter.

    3. Fold in apples and nuts; pour into greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Spread topping over batter. Bake 1-1 1/4 hours.

    4. Test center carefully; cool 10 minutes in pan; turn on rack to cool completely.


    Final Comments


    *To sour fresh milk, blend 1/2 tsp. vinegar with 2 Tbs. milk. Let stand; remeasure to use.
