    Su-Su's Gold Cake

    Note: This has no leavening in it, the eggs do the work of baking powder or baking soda.

    Su-Su was my husband's great aunt, a legendary cook. She was also a woman you didn't cross, if she said sift, you sifted.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup Crisco
    • 1/2 cup butter or margerine
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 5 eggs
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt


    Instructions


    1. Either sift the flour, or lightly measure it. This is the only recipe that I sift the flour for because she did, and the cake was lightest when she made it.
    2. Cream the Crisco and butter with the sugar until thoroughly creamed together and light.
    3. Add vanilla, salt and eggs and beat together well.
    4. Add flour a little at a tiime.
    5. Grease and flour a 9" tube pan or the equivalent.
    6. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 40-45 minutes.
    7. Let cool for 10 minutes, then turn out of pan.
