    Source of Recipe

    Cindy S. Hughes

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 cup apple cider
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/8 cup butter(softened)
    1 large egg
    1/4 cup buttermilk
    2 cup flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
    2 gallons frying oil
    1/2 cup cinnamon & 1/2 cup sugar(mixed) or 2 cup powder sugar

    Recipe

Boil apple cider until it reduces to about a 1/4 cup in size, then allow to cool.
In a large bowl beat sugar with butter until smooth, add the egg, buttermilk& apple cider. In another bowl mix the remainder of dry ingredients(flour, baking powder & soda, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg)
Add the flour mixture slowly to the liquid mixture and mix just to combine. You want the dough not to be sticky. Add flour to countertop and knead slightly just to combine without overworking the dough. Roll or pat dough to 1/2 inch thick. You can use two different size round cookie cutters to create doughnuts or you can make golf ball size dough balls to make doughnut holes.
Place a few at a time into the deep fat fryer that has been filled with oil and heated. Fry a few doughnuts at a time turning once or twice until they are brown and cooked through.
Allow to doughnuts to drain on paper towel. While still warm coat with cinnamon & sugar mixture or powder sugar. You need to work fast to make sure it sticks to the doughnuts.
