1 cup butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
Cream and add 2 eggs. beat until well mixed..
in a medium bowl, sift together
2 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
add to creamed mixture
stir in 3 cups uncooked oats
1 Tab vanilla
press 3/4 of the batter into 9x13 baking pan
microwave 2 cups semisweet choc. chips with
2 Tab butter
1 1/2 cups cream
1/4 tsp salt on high power, stirring often, until chips and butter are melted and mixture is smooth..
stir in 1 tsp vanilla and
2 cups black walnut pieces
pour chocolate mixture on top of batter in pan..
dot with remaining oat mixture
bake in preheated 350 degree oven until chocolate mixture becomes solid, about 30 minutes..
cool completely before cutting into bars
makes 16 2"x3" bars..
Variation...fresh fruit, blueberries, raspberries etc, could be cooked down [sweeten with some sugar] and use instead of chocolate layer
