    Hello everyone, my name is Despina and I am from Athens, Greece.

    Greek meatballs with sauce:

    List of Ingredients




    Meatball mix:
    1/2 kg ground meat (with little or no fat, best meat for meatballs is a mix of beef and pork)
    1 egg
    4 cloves garlic chopped
    2 medium onions chopped
    1/2 - 3/4 cup bread crumbs
    1 small green pepper chopped
    2 tsp cumin
    1/2 tsp dried oregano
    1/4 tsp dried thyme
    1 shot of ouzo or red wine
    salt and pepper to taste

    Flour for coating the meatballs and oil for frying.

    Sauce:
    1/4 cup olive oil (you can use less if you prefer)
    1 1/2 cup tomato puree
    1 small green pepper chopped
    1 small red pepper chopped
    a little sugar if the tomatoes are not very sweet
    1/2 tsp cumin
    1/2 cup red wine
    salt and pepper to taste

    Recipe



    In a big bowl mix the ground meat,with the remaining ingredients using your hands for about 2-3 minutes. The mix must be soft but not too much. If the mix is too soft you can add some bread crumbs, if not you can add some wine, ouzo or olive oil.

    Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let stand in the refrigerator for about 2 hours.

    Form small oval meatballs (it is easier to form them if you cover your hands with a little olive oil), cover them with flour and fry them in olive oil. Remove them from the pan when fried.

    In another pan put the ingredients of the sauce and cook in medium heat for about 5-8 mins. Add the meatballs and cook for an additional 8-10 minutes.

    Serve the soutzoukakia with rice (pilaf), french fries or mashed potatoes.
