Sweet & Sour Cabbage Soup

Recipe Introduction
I could not find short ribs at my grocery store, so used ground round. Also thought it sounded like a lot of salt so cut it in half -- but it tasted too bland so I put the rest of the salt in (and it tasted much better).
List of Ingredients
3 lb. beef short ribs
2 T. canola oil
4 C. chopped yellow onions
8 C. chopped cabbage (about one small head)
1 T. minced garlic
2 T. seasoned salt
1 T. coarsely ground pepper
1/2 C. granulated sugar
1 T. Kosher salt
28-oz. can diced tomatoes, with juice
2 bay leaves
6 C. water
Recipe
Brown short ribs in large saute pan over high heat till brown (about 10-15 min.) Remove ribs and place in separate dish; set aside.
Pour off fat from saute pan. Add canola oil to pan and add onions. Reduce heat to medium and saute till translucent. Add cabbage and cook till soft and wilted.
Place onions, cabbage, short ribs, garlic, seasoned salt, pepper, sugar, Kosher salt, canned tomatoes and bay leaves in large stock pot. Add water; bring to boil, then simmer for two hours. Remove bay leaves, and serve. Makes 4 to 6 large servings.
