    1 cup butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 Tab molasses or sorghum
    1 large egg, beaten
    2 cups flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 Tab cinnamon
    1 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
    2 tsp ground cloves
    1/2 cup dark raisins
    1/2 cup chopped dates

    Cream butter and sugar in bowl, add molasses and egg, gradually add dry ingredients and mix well...roll into small ball and press with bottom of glass dipped in sugar...bake 10 minutes at 325 degrees

    I have also shaped this on buttered or parchment-lined cookie sheet in a 1/2 " thick rectangular shape, sprinkled with sugar...after baking a little longer. Cool a few minutes then cut in bars...glaze with simple powdered sugar and milk mixture
