Before Prohibition, the Lemp Brewer in South St. Louis was one of the largest in the World...in 1862, the Lemp family built a beautiful stone mansion that is now restaurant, bed and breakfast, events, catering, and home to the Lavender Lady...presumably the ghost of a former resident ...located just a few blocks south of the world headquarters of Anheuser Busch, brewers of Budweiser, the home is decorated in Victorian splendor and available for rental of weddings, etc...
the following recipe was one of the first desserts offered when they opened in the late 1970's...it is still a treat today...
from their 1977 menu...
soup $.40 to $.55
Steak Sandwich with fries and coleslaw $3.00
Dinner salad $.75
Dessert $.75
List of Ingredients
4 heaping tablespoon cocoa
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup pecan halves
1/2 cup coconut
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup evaporated milk

mix all...pour into a 9" unbaked pie shell. Bake 30 minutes in a preheated 400 degree oven...
pie can be served with whipping cream or ice cream..
