    Mile High Biscuits

    List of Ingredients

    2 ½ cups self-rising flour
1 pkg. dry yeast or 1 cake fresh
    1/4-teaspoon soda
    1-cup buttermilk
    1/4 cup sugar
    1/3 cup shortening

    Recipe

Sift together flour, soda & sugar. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm
buttermilk. Cut shortening into flour mixture. Stir buttermilk into
dry ingredients quickly. Turn dough onto floured cloth or board and
knead just until smooth. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with
biscuit cutter. (For single biscuits roll to usual thickness.) Brush
tops with melted butter; place one on top of another, making double
biscuits. Cover and place in a warm place to rise until double, about
    1 hour. Bake at 375 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 1 ½ dozen.
