    Croque Monsieur*

These are also called 'Monte Cristo' Sandwiches. Yummy no matter what they're called. Sliced deli turkey can also be added, if desired.

    List of Ingredients

2 slices White or Egg Bread
    2 ozs Ham
1 oz Gruyere or Cheddar Cheese , sliced thinly
    1 t whole grain Mustard
    Salt and Black Pepper
    1 Egg
    A splash of Milk
    Confectioner's Sugar
    Raspberry Jam or Preserves

    Recipe

Basically, this is a French Toasted Ham and Cheese Sandwich.
Spread the Mustard on one slice of bread. Cover with the Cheese. Cover the Cheese with the Ham and make the Sandwich.
Beat the Egg, Milk, Salt and Pepper on a flat plate. Put the Sandwich into the Egg and leave for ten minutes, turning once.
Place in a frying pan with a little vegetable Oil and fry for ten minutes on a very low heat, turning once. The Cheese should be melted and oozing from the sides.
Cut in half to make triangles, arrange on plate, dust with Confectioner's Sugar.
Note: This is traditionally served with a dab of Raspberry jam on the side.
You can add some sliced Tomatoes to the Sandwich, but it makes it a little messy.
This is a nice Sunday Brunch or Luncheon Sandwich.
