    How To Season Cast Iron

    Source of Recipe

    ?

    List of Ingredients

Rub the cast iron with a thin coating of oil (some sources recommend using only bacon fat or lard, but any oil will do) and bake it in a 300F oven for 2 to 3 hours.
Allow the pan to cool and repeat the process two or three times for best results. Never use soap to clean cast iron, but wash it while it is still hot, scrubbing just enough to remove stuck-on bits. And never store food in cast iron because this will allow the food to react with the iron. Wipe your cast iron dry before stowing it. If your cast iron rusts from lack of use, simply scrub it clean with steel wool and re-season it. Properly cared for, the surface of the cast iron will turn smooth and black over time, and a well seasoned cast iron skillet is something your grandchildren's grandchildren will enjoy if kept in the family.
