Recipe Introduction
Helen Behm, Sioux Falls, SD, sent me a recipe to "lighten up" so that her husband could once again enjoy it. In case you are wondering about the name, this is really another version of Sloppy Joe, but it's called a "tavern" because they were usually served in small town taverns. Cliff remarked that he would dine in my "kitchen tavern" anytime these are on the menu.
Serves 6
List of Ingredients
- 16 ounces ground 90% lean turkey or beef
- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup Heinz Light Harvest Ketchup or any reduced-sodium ketchup
- 1 teaspoon JO's Chili Seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
- 6 reduced-calorie hamburger buns
Instructions
- In a large skillet sprayed with butter-flavored cooking spray, brown meat and onion. Stir in water and ketchup. Add JO's Chili seasoning and mustard. Mix well to combine. Lower heat and simmer for 15 to 20 mintues, stirring occasionally. For each serving, spoon about 2/3 cup meat mixture between a bun.
