    Cherry Ribbon Cake Slices

    1 package angel food cake mix
    1 pint vanilla or cherry chip ice cream, slightly softened
    1 can (21 oz.) Cherry Pie filling
    1/4 teaspoon almond extract
    1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted*

    Heat oven to 350 . Prepare and bake cake mix as directed on package for two 9-inch loaf pans. Cool and remove from pans as directed. Use 1 loaf for this recipe. Freeze other for another use. Carefully split loaf horizontally to make 2 layers. Spread ice cream between layers. Wrap and freeze at least 4 hours until firm. Heat pie filling in saucepan over low heat. Stir in almond extract. Cut cake into slices. Spoon pie filling over each slice. Sprinkle with almonds. (*To toast almonds, heat oven to 350 . Bake in ungreased pan 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.)
