    List of Ingredients

    1 ½ c flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. Salt
    1 Tbls. shortening
1/2 c warm water (you may need to make a slight adjustment on this... your dough should feel and appear much like a soft biscuit dough.)

    Recipe

Place flour, baking powder, and salt in food processor bowl and mix.
Add shortening and mix until crumbly.
Add warm water and mix until a pastry like dough forms.
Turn out onto a floured board. (It is a good idea at this point to cover with a damp cloth for an hour, but not an absolute.)
Heat oil to 425°F in a large heavy frying pan.
Divide dough in half for easier handling.
Roll each ball of dough as thin as possible.
Cut into 4-5” squares* and fry in the pre-heated oil, pushing squares down into the oil several times so they will brown evenly. Turn once to brown and cook until golden on both sides.
Drain on paper towels, and serve warm with honey, or if you prefer, you may sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.

*These can be cut larger, but this works best for me and allows a nice pocket for filling. Fillings can range from a nice drizzle of honey to a tasty meat filling.
