    4-Step-Chile Mix Gift Basket

    Recipe Introduction

    Fun, easy, frugel and tasty!!! And you can spiff it up with your choice of packaging to make it beautiful.

    List of Ingredients

    1 pound dried kidney beans
    1 T minced onion, dried
    2 tsp Beef bouillon granules
    1 tsp Salt
    1/2 tsp Garlic powder
    1/2 T Chili powder
    1 tsp Dried oregano
    1/4 tsp Ground red pepper
    1 Bay leaf

    (I also like to include an 8 oz. can of tomato sauce, an 6-8 oz. can of tomato paste but these are optional.)

    Recipe

    1-Place the beans into an airtight plastic bag.
    2-Combine minced onion, bouillon granules, and salt and garlic powder. Place in a small airtight plastic bag. Put bag in a colorful decorative bag and label it "Flavoring Packet".
    3-Combine remaining ingredients in a small airtight plastic bag. Place bag in a decorative bag and label it "Seasoning Packet".

    Place 1 bag beans, 1 Flavoring Packet and 1 Seasoning Packet in a napkin lined basket. Be sure to include directions for preparing on a gift card.

    4 STEP-CHILI MIX DIRECTIONS:
    1-Sort and wash beans. Place in a large soup pot.
    2-Cover with water 2 inches above beans; let soak 8 hours. Drain.
    3-Combine beans, 4 tbls. oil, Flavoring Packet and 7 cups water in a large heavy pot with lid. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat and simmer 1 hour or until tender, stirring occasionally.
    4-Stir in 1 pound cooked ground beef, 8 oz can tomato sauce, 6 oz can tomato paste and Seasoning Packet.
    6-Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
